PAST EVENT: Violence Unseen - Exhibition, Workshop, Panel Discussion

Gender Equal Media Scotland, in association with Strathclyde Student Union, the Equality & Diversity Service, and Equally Safe @ Strathclyde, will be hosting Zero Tolerance’s powerful Violence Unseen exhibition. The event will take place at the Scottish Universities Insight Institute at the University of Strathclyde.

This photography exhibition explores forms of violence against women that are still misunderstood, hidden and unacknowledged by mainstream society. Alongside the exhibition, we hosted a workshop to explore ‘The News as It Should Be’ and a panel discussion and Q&A. Speakers:

Anni Donaldson – Anni is a Knowledge Exchange Fellow and Project Lead for Equally Safe in Colleges and Universities (Equally Safe@Strathclyde). Her research interests are domestic abuse and violence against women, policy and practice and she is currently completing her doctoral research: an Oral History of Domestic Abuse in post-war Scotland.

Claire Heuchan - Claire is an award-winning black feminist writer who blogs under the name Sister Outrider. She writes on subjects including race, power, identity and sexual politics and her work has been featured in several publications including 404 Ink's Nasty Women.

Brenna Jessie – Brenna is a Scottish feminist activist campaigning and working on issues to do with gender, justice and media. She is new in post as Press and Campaigns Officer at Rape Crisis Scotland and prior to that worked at Scottish Women’s Aid as External Affairs Officer. Brenna lead a team of four activists protesting the two-child cap and rape clause in Scotland and prior to that was a member of the successful UK wide campaign No More Page 3. She was once called a ‘horrible elite’ by Rupert Murdoch and more accurately “pancake tits hippy dippy lesbian” by an anonymous man on Twitter.

Lily Greenan - Lily is the Deputy Director for Zero Tolerance and previously worked for Scottish Women's Aid.
